Since its foundation in the early 21st century, it has been actively involved in multiple airport privatizations, concessions and the like (in the aggregate, public-private partnerships, PPP’s), primarily in Central and South America.
Its active involvement in the various and complex areas of these PPP’s have enabled the unlocking of great value to the benefit of the emerging markets where these airports exist.
HASDC teams have been instrumental in supporting key areas, including:
- Airport planning, design, and facilities development and maintenance, in part leveraging its global aviation industry relationships
- All aspects of operations, with a focus on safety and security
- Commercial and traffic development, and
- Financing and capital structures, including the successful sourcing of sophisticated and unique entities such as the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the Export-Import Bank of the United States (ExIm) and other multilaterals.
Over the years, in addition to its involvement in airport PPP’s, it had been involved in airport operations training, consulting, and related services to airports around the world. For example, HASDC was the largest provider of training services, some of its programs provided in conjunction with the FAA, to the Civil Aviation Authority of China.
Currently, it has direct and indirect involvement in different successful airport projects, including the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José, Costa Rica (SJO), the Daniel Oduber Quiroz International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR), the Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito, Ecuador and the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport in Barranquilla, Colombia (BAQ).
Houston Airports is a formidable and highly successful enterprise in one of the most dynamic cities in the United States, Houston. It manages three airports: George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), William P. Hobby (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD), which together serve more than 50 million passengers annually.
HASDC is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3), Texas corporation governed by a board of three members, the chairman of which is in perpetuity the Director of Aviation of the Houston Airport System. The entirety of HASDC’s economic benefits accrue to the Houston Airport System.
